Service Overview

Hazardous area classification is a fundamental risk control for facilities where flammable or explosive atmospheres may exist. iDRISK engineers prepare and review hazardous area dossiers, perform ignition source risk assessments, and advise on equipment zoning, selection and installation in accordance with AS/NZS IEC 60079 series, IEC 60079, and the IECEx system. We work with operators, project teams, insurers, and regulators.

Key Challenges

Outdated or missing hazardous area documentation on existing facilities

Incorrect zone classification leading to inappropriate equipment selection

Gas and dust hazards not adequately considered during facility upgrades

Non-compliant electrical and mechanical equipment installed in hazardous zones

Inadequate ventilation assessments for enclosed handling areas

Compliance Considerations

Hazardous area classification in Australia is governed by AS/NZS IEC 60079-10-1 (gases and vapours) and AS/NZS IEC 60079-10-2 (dusts). Equipment installed in classified zones must comply with AS/NZS IEC 60079 series and carry appropriate IECEx or equivalent certification.
