Service Overview

Our explosives advisory encompasses commercial explosives manufacturing, storage and transport compliance, as well as defence-sector explosive ordnance (EO) and guided weapons and explosive ordnance (GWEO) environments. iDRISK engineers have direct experience with Comcare-regulated explosive facilities, Defence DEOP101 requirements, and international standards including NATO AASTP-1. We bring both the technical depth and the regulatory literacy required to operate in these high-consequence environments.

Key Challenges

High-consequence incidents with limited tolerance for non-compliance

Complex quantity distance (QD) calculations requiring specialist engineering input

Licensing and notification requirements across multiple regulatory bodies

Defence-specific requirements misapplied in commercial contexts and vice versa

Security sensitive ammonium nitrate (SSAN) regulatory requirements frequently misunderstood

Compliance Considerations

Explosives in Australia are regulated under state and territory explosives legislation and, for Commonwealth-controlled sites, under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth) administered by Comcare. Defence EO operations are governed by Defence explosive ordnance policy (DEOP101) and applicable NATO standards (AASTP-1).
